Stellar (XLM) expands role in asset tokenization and payments

Stellar (XLM) is an open-source blockchain network launched in 2014, designed to facilitate fast, low-cost cross-border payments and the tokenization of real-world assets. The network is maintained by the non-profit Stellar Development Foundation.

As of late 2026, the platform has seen significant growth in asset tokenization, with real-world assets on the network reaching approximately $4 billion. Major institutional users settling on the network include PayPal, MoneyGram, and Franklin Templeton. Additionally, the network hosted the launch of funds from State Street and Galaxy.

The native cryptocurrency, XLM, serves as a bridge asset for transfers between different currencies and stablecoins. In October 2026, XLM was valued at approximately $0.22 with a market capitalization of roughly $7.6 billion.
