Stelvio Pass ranked as Europe’s most winding road
A new study by Avis has ranked Europe’s most winding and spectacular roads, reflecting a 170% global surge in searches for “scenic routes.” The study utilized AI to analyze road curvature, altitude, and length, combining these metrics with social media popularity and Google search volumes to create a comprehensive score.
The Stelvio Pass, located on the border between Italy and Switzerland, was named the most winding road in Europe, earning 88 out of 100 points. The 35 km route reaches an altitude of 2,757 meters and features 685 turns, averaging 20 turns per kilometer. Due to its high elevation, the pass is only accessible from June to October.
For travelers seeking scenery over technical driving, Italy’s Val d’Orcia was identified as the most picturesque road trip destination, noted for its iconic Tuscan landscapes and vineyards.
