Step App to Shut Down All Services by August 21
Step App, a move‑to‑earn platform that rewarded physical activity with the FITFI cryptocurrency, announced it will cease all operations on 21 August, ending four years of service. Users are instructed to withdraw any staked FITFI tokens, close positions and retrieve assets before the deadline, as the app’s wallet, staking, DEX, bridge and marketplace will be disabled.
The app recorded over one million downloads and billions of steps worldwide, and at its peak the FITFI token rose from its IDO price of $0.0049 to about $0.73 before collapsing. Korean exchanges Upbit and Bithumb delisted FITFI in July, cutting off a major source of liquidity. The shutdown reflects the broader decline of the move‑to‑earn and NFT‑shoe market that surged in 2022.
Step App’s closure follows similar difficulties faced by other projects in the sector, such as STEPN, and marks the end of an era for crypto‑driven fitness incentives.
