Stephan Remmler celebrates 80th birthday
Stephan Remmler, the former frontman of the influential Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) band Trio, is celebrating his 80th birthday on October 25. Remmler rose to international fame with the minimalist hit ‘Da Da Da’, which sold 13 million copies and reached number one charts in countries such as New Zealand and South Africa.
Before his musical success, Remmler and bandmate Gert ‘Kralle’ Krawinkel worked as teachers. The band Trio, which included drummer Peter Behrens, was known for its polarizing, minimalist style that often challenged conservative audiences during televised performances.
In addition to his work with Trio, Remmler achieved solo success, including the song ‘I Don’t Go to U.S.A.’, an English version of ‘Keine Sterne in Athen’, which reportedly reached number one on the Philippine charts.
