Stephanie Cadieux named Order of British Columbia recipient

Stephanie Cadieux, a former Surrey MLA and Canada’s first Chief Accessibility Officer, has been named one of the 12 recipients of the Order of British Columbia for 2026. The award recognizes her work in driving public policy changes and empowering people with disabilities across Canada.

The B.C. government announced the recipients on September 22, ahead of an investment ceremony at Government House in Victoria. Cadieux, who has been an advocate for disability inclusion and diversity, served as an MLA for 13 years before transitioning to her role as Chief Accessibility Officer in April 2022.

Eleven other individuals were also honored for their distinguished service to the province, including residents from Prince George, Vancouver, Langley, and Victoria. The Order of British Columbia is the highest form of recognition the province can bestow on its citizens.
