Stephen A. Smith defends capitalism, warns democratic socialists could hand presidency to GOP
On his SiriusXM program “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.”, commentator Stephen A. Smith argued that the United States remains a place where hard work can lead to opportunity, contrasting it with European nations such as Denmark, Finland and Sweden. He criticized the socialist wing of the Democratic Party for portraying America as the source of economic problems and warned that embracing socialist policies could hand the presidency to the Republican Party. Smith cited the recent tax return of Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El‑Sayed, a progressive backed by democratic socialists, to illustrate perceived hypocrisy among socialist advocates. He also acknowledged the real wealth gap in the United States, describing it as a division between “the haves and the have‑nots.”
