Stephen A. Smith ranks Ole Miss quarterback ahead of Arch Manning
ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith said on First Take ahead of SEC Media Days that he could not see anyone putting Texas quarterback Arch Manning ahead of Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. Smith highlighted Chambliss’ 2025 season, in which he threw for 3,937 yards, 30 touchdowns and only three interceptions, adding 527 rushing yards and eight rushing scores, while Manning posted 3,163 passing yards, 36 passing touchdowns, 7 interceptions and 399 rushing yards with ten rushing touchdowns but dealt with shoulder pain. Both quarterbacks are set to return for the 2026 season, and Smith’s comments reflect the debate over SEC quarterback rankings.
The remarks came as Chambliss helped Ole Miss reach the College Football Playoff, defeating teams such as Tulane and Georgia, and underscore the heightened expectations for the upcoming season.
