Stephen Bouchard denied bail as Maine 1987 murder case proceeds

Stephen Bouchard, 63, of Winslow, Maine, has been charged with the 1987 murder of his then‑girlfriend Alice Hawkes, 23. Hawkes was found dead in the Westbrook apartment they shared, and prosecutors allege Bouchard beat her and slit her throat on Oct. 3, 1987. Bouchard was arrested in May 2024 and has pleaded not guilty.

A Superior Court Justice denied Bouchard’s request for bail in June, and the Maine Supreme Judicial Court associate justice Wayne Douglas upheld that denial in a court order. As a result, Bouchard will remain in jail while awaiting trial.
