Stephen Chow says he won’t act, waiting for the right role
Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Chow, who directed the hit Chinese film “Kung Fu Women’s Soccer”, said in a recent livestream that he does not understand acting and is not planning to appear on screen soon, adding he may still be waiting for the right role. The movie has earned 20.7 billion RMB (about 98 billion TWD) in its first 20 days, confirming Chow’s continued box‑office appeal.
Later, veteran actor Lee Siu‑hin criticized Chow on another live broadcast, describing him as childless, secretive and unwilling to be seen in public. Lee’s remarks sparked a backlash from mainland net‑users who defended Chow, highlighted his financial success and suggested the comments were an attempt to ride Chow’s recent popularity.
