Stephen Colbert raises $5M for startup Scripto after The Late Show Emmy wins

Following the conclusion of his 11-year tenure at CBS, Stephen Colbert has transitioned into a tech founder role, securing $5 million in initial funding for his screenwriting software startup, Scripto. The fundraising round was led by Todd Steifel and included contributions from Colbert, his wife Evelyn McGee Colbert, J.J. Abrams, and Mark Cuban. Scripto is currently utilized by video game developers, late-night programs, and award ceremonies, with plans to expand features for narrative television and film.

In a separate development, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert received significant recognition at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Despite the program's recent cancellation, it won five Emmys, including Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series. Its digital companion, Colbert Before Air, also earned an award for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series, totaling six victories for productions associated with Colbert’s final season.
