Stephen Curry expected to play in Warriors season opener after ankle injury
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is expected to be available for the team’s regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday following an injury scare. During an open practice at Chase Center on Sunday, Curry suffered a right ankle sprain after a non-contact slip while dribbling. The incident initially caused concern among fans and teammates as Curry limped to the locker room, with some fearing a recurrence of his previous knee issues.
Head coach Steve Kerr provided reassuring updates, confirming that Curry participated in a full practice on Monday and stated, “He’s fine.” While the injury was a sprain rather than a knee issue, the Warriors are managing several other roster concerns. The team is currently dealing with injuries to Jimmy Butler, Moses Moody, and Kristaps Porzingis, as well as day-to-day status for Charles Bassey and lower back soreness for Brandin Podziemski.
Curry, entering his 18th NBA season, averaged 26.6 points per game last season but was limited to 43 appearances due to various injuries. The Warriors' ability to remain competitive hinges significantly on his health, as the team's record shows a marked difference in performance both with and without him in the lineup.
