Stephen F. Austin football concludes preseason scrimmages

Stephen F. Austin football completed its final scheduled camp scrimmage as the team prepares for its upcoming season. Notable performers during the scrimmage included freshman wide receiver Sean Carter, redshirt junior quarterback Gavin Rutherford, and tight end Riley Ellefson. On the defensive side, Davonta Morgan-Collins recorded an interception, while linebackers Michael Woods, Gary Seidenberger, and Tank Reese were highlighted for their performances.

Several players have received preseason recognition. Bugs Mortimer and Erik Gray were named among the 49 FCS players to watch by the NCAA. Additionally, Mortimer earned first-team punt returner honors on Phil Steele’s Preseason FCS All-America team, while Malachi Williams and Eli Ennis received second and third-team honors, respectively.

In broadcasting news, SFA Athletics announced updates to its 2026-27 radio and broadcasting teams. Veteran broadcaster Rob Hipp will join the football broadcast as a color analyst alongside returning play-by-play announcer Chase Merrell.
