University of Sydney study links diet to biological age changes
A study conducted by the University of Sydney involving 104 healthy Australians aged 65 to 75 suggests that dietary changes can influence biological age within just four weeks.
Participants were randomly assigned to different dietary groups. Results indicated that three out of the four groups, including a semi-vegetarian group, showed significant improvements in a composite biological age value calculated from 20 different blood markers, such as insulin and cholesterol levels. The most pronounced effects were observed in a carbohydrate-rich diet group, whereas a control group following a high-fat, omnivorous diet showed no significant changes.
Researchers noted that while these findings are promising, long-term studies are necessary to determine if these effects lead to a sustained reduction in disease risk and to understand the exact cellular mechanisms involved.
