Netflix to release Matthew Perry documentary on October 27

Netflix will premiere a three-part documentary series, ‘The One About Matthew Perry’, on October 27, one day before the third anniversary of the actor’s death. Directed by Mary Robertson, the series explores the life and career of the ‘Friends’ star, moving beyond his fame as Chandler Bing to address his long-term struggles with addiction.

The documentary features intimate testimonies from Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, and close friends. Bowick shares personal reflections, including the emotional toll of his addiction and a poignant moment during his funeral where she felt his presence. The series also highlights the scale of his battle with substance abuse, noting that Perry reportedly spent over seven million US dollars attempting to achieve sobriety.

While the documentary provides a deep look into his personal life and his legacy, the five main cast members of ‘Friends’—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—declined to participate in new interviews. The production utilizes previously unreleased family archives, including photos and videos, to provide a comprehensive portrait of the actor.
