Stephen King praises Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ series for Prime Video

A new eight-episode series adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel, ‘Carrie’, is set to premiere on Prime Video. Created by Mike Flanagan, the series has already seen early screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Stephen King shared his approval of the project on Threads, describing Mike Flanagan’s version as ‘brilliant’ and noting that its commentary on social media is ‘shocking and true’. This adaptation updates the setting from the original 1970s timeline to the mid-2020s.

Flanagan admitted to initial hesitation regarding another adaptation of the well-known story, citing previous successful versions such as Brian De Palma’s 1976 film. He noted that the project was a priority for Amazon following their acquisition of the MGM library and served as the first project under his new deal with the streamer.
