Stephen King recalls emotional reaction to Stand by Me

Author Stephen King has shared personal reflections regarding the 40th anniversary of the film ‘Stand by Me’, directed by Rob Reiner. The movie, which holds a 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is based on King’s 1982 novella ‘The Body’. King has described this work as his most ‘nakedly autobiographical story’, noting that many elements and locations were drawn directly from his childhood in Maine.

King recalled that during the film’s initial screening at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Reiner was too nervous to witness the author’s reaction, fearing the adaptation might not meet his expectations. However, King was so deeply moved by the production that he had to retreat to a bathroom to regain his composure.

These reflections come as King honors Reiner’s legacy following the director's recent passing.
