Stephen King wrote 'Salem’s Lot in a Maine garage

Horror author Stephen King wrote his classic vampire novel, 'Salem’s Lot, in a small garage room in North Windham, Maine. The writing took place during a pivotal period after King gained the financial stability to write full-time following the paperback sale of 'Carrie' in 1973.

During this time, King’s family had moved to southern Maine due to his mother’s declining health. The novel, which follows characters battling a vampire threat in a small town, underwent several title changes, including 'Second Coming' and 'Jerusalem’s Lot', before its final release.
