Stephen Morris questions purpose of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Stephen Morris, the drummer for Joy Division and New Order, has expressed skepticism regarding the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In a recent conversation with Rolling Stone, Morris stated that he does not understand the purpose of receiving or giving awards.
Morris characterized the Hall of Fame's decision to induct both Joy Division and New Order as a combined induction as ‘a bit of a cheat.’ He also reflected on Joy Division’s 2023 nomination, noting that he initially felt misled by the voting process after the group was not selected for induction at that time.
While acknowledging that it is positive when fans and voters recognize the legacy of his bands, Morris maintained that he personally sees no point in award ceremonies.
