Stephen Welsh praised for successful Scotland international debut
Former midfielder Alex Rae has praised defender Stephen Welsh following his successful debut international camp with Scotland. Welsh, who currently plays for Swansea City, featured in all four of Scotland’s recent Nations League matches under manager Sebastien Pocognoli.
Rae noted that the 26-year-old appeared assured and composed at the senior international level, specifically highlighting his comfort on the ball. Welsh’s rise follows a period of development during a loan spell at Motherwell and a subsequent permanent move to Swansea City.
During the international break, Welsh started three matches and appeared as a substitute in a fixture against Switzerland. His performances have been credited with helping the squad maintain defensive stability, including a clean sheet against North Macedonia.
