Österreichische Gesundheitskasse implements AI for digital health services

The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) is expanding its digital transformation efforts to serve approximately 7.6 million insured individuals, contract partners, and employers. A central component of this initiative is the implementation of 'KAI' (Kostenerstattung mit Artificial Intelligence), an artificial intelligence system designed to accelerate the reimbursement of private doctor invoices.

Users can submit invoices via the 'Meine ÖGK' mobile application or the official website, where the AI-supported system automates document processing. The ÖGK reports that over 85 million pages have already been largely processed through automation. The app will also allow users to track the real-time status of their reimbursement requests.

Further digital updates for the 'Meine ÖGK' app include the ability to complete medical history forms for preventive check-ups directly on a smartphone, which will then be automatically transmitted to doctors via the e-card system. The app will also link lifestyle recommendations, such as nutrition or smoking cessation, to relevant ÖGK courses. Additionally, a new 'DG-Dashboard' will consolidate electronic services for companies through the Unternehmensserviceportal, utilizing ID Austria for secure access.
