Stevan Garić arrested in Cyprus on Interpol warrant

Stevan Garić, a 33-year-old man from Milić, has been arrested at Larnaka Airport in Cyprus following an Interpol red notice. Garić arrived on a flight from Belgrade, where authorities identified him during passport control.

He is wanted by Bosnian authorities for his alleged involvement in the attempted murder of Slobodan Vasiljević in Šekovići in June 2019. According to the indictment, Vasiljević was brutally beaten with metal rods and feet in front of an Orthodox church, resulting in life-threatening injuries including a skull fracture.

Garić had previously been sentenced to 25 months in prison for bodily harm, but the verdict was overturned by the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska, leading to a retrial. Because he failed to appear for court hearings, a warrant was issued, and his case was separated from the other defendants. Cypriot police have ordered his detention to initiate extradition proceedings to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
