Steve Angeli named Syracuse starting quarterback

Syracuse University head coach Fran Brown has officially named Steve Angeli as the starting quarterback for the upcoming football season. Angeli, a transfer from Notre Dame, is returning to the starting role after recovering from a season-ending Achilles injury that occurred last year while he was leading the nation in several passing categories.

During his previous stint with the Orange, Angeli led the team to a 3-1 record in four games, completing 63 percent of his passes for 1,317 yards and 10 touchdowns. The offense, led by offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon, has seen significant success with Angeli under center, contributing to a period where the team led the country in passing yards.

Syracuse is scheduled to open its 2026 season on September 5 against New Hampshire. Analysts note that a healthy Angeli is central to the team's ability to exceed its preseason win projections, despite a challenging schedule that includes matchups against Notre Dame and Clemson.
