Former Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski has died following a battle with cancer. He was 67 years old.

Gollschewski served with the Queensland Police Service for over 46 years, making him one of the longest-serving senior executives in the organization's history. He was appointed as the state’s 21st police commissioner in April 2024, following the resignation of Katarina Carroll. He retired in February 2026 to focus on his health after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing described Gollschewski as a “strategic and visionary leader” and a “remarkable strategist” who was guided by deep personal values. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli also paid tribute, stating that the state had lost a man who devoted his life to public safety and service.
