Steve Hackett Open to Possible Genesis Reunion
Steve Hackett, the guitarist who joined Genesis in 1971 and contributed to six studio albums before leaving in 1977, said he would be willing to reunite with his former bandmates if they wanted. “I've always said that if they wanted me to reform, I would do it,” he told listeners on the Word in Your Ear podcast. He added that a live reunion is unlikely and that any studio collaboration would require agreement on which material is considered "classic," noting the challenges of reconciling the band's varied eras.
Hackett has been revisiting Genesis material, re‑recording songs with orchestras and performing at a 2025 release party for the 50th‑anniversary remaster of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway alongside Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. He missed the band's final concert at London's O2 Arena due to a scheduling conflict. While on a solo UK tour this fall, Hackett said, “I do it for the love of music,” and remains appreciative of his legacy with Genesis.
