Steve Hilton campaigns on California drug and homelessness crisis

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton has highlighted California’s escalating drug and homelessness crises during his campaign. While filming in Los Angeles near MacArthur Park, an area described as ‘fentanyl alley’, Hilton captured footage of a violent altercation between a man and a security guard.

Hilton has pledged to clear all homeless encampments in the state by the end of 2027. His proposed timeline includes setting public deadlines for mayors and county leaders by Labor Day 2027, with a final state-wide deadline of December 31, 2027.

As part of his platform, Hilton is criticizing current state leadership and policies, advocating for reforms in housing, fuel taxes, and public safety to address what he describes as the consequences of decades of mismanagement in Sacramento.
