Steve Jobs: Legacy reflections and failed Apple negotiations

Following the anniversary of Steve Jobs' death, reflections on his legacy and business dealings have resurfaced. Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, passed away at age 56, leaving a profound impact on the technology industry.

In his 2005 Stanford University commencement speech, Jobs shared philosophical views on mortality following his 2004 pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor diagnosis. He described death as “possibly the best invention of life,” suggesting it serves as a catalyst for renewal and helps individuals prioritize what is truly important.

In a separate business anecdote, Ali Partovi, former CEO of the startup iLike, recounted a failed acquisition attempt by Apple in 2008. During a meeting with Steve Jobs and Eddy Cue, Partovi attempted to renegotiate the valuation after Jobs had expressed interest in purchasing the company. Jobs reportedly identified the deception, which ultimately ended the negotiations.
