Recent data shows that teams with high numbers of experienced starters have performed well, going 10-0 straight up and 8-2 against the spread over the last two weeks. Conversely, teams with new defensive coordinators or low overall stability scores have proven to be profitable fades.

For the NFL, Makinen highlights a specific trend involving small road underdogs with spreads between +1 and +6. Since 2016, these teams have gone 44-17 against the spread. The trend is notably more successful when those teams are coming off a Week 1 loss, posting a 26-6 record (81.3%) against the spread with a 60.6% return on investment.
