Steve McQueen debuts sound installation at Guggenheim Bilbao

British artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen has unveiled a new sound installation titled ‘66-76-26’ at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. The work features an imaginary a cappella duet between musical icons Nina Simone and David Bowie, who perform the song ‘Wild Is the Wind’.

The installation occupies a 100-square-meter dark, empty room where the intertwined voices create a sculptural auditory experience. McQueen described the piece as a ‘requiem to love,’ intended to encourage visitors to slow down and find connection in an era characterized by fear and a lack of trust in institutions.

The exhibition is scheduled to remain on view at the museum through February 21, 2027.
