Steve Morgan Associates Wins £34 MW Dounreay Battery Storage Contract
Newport‑based engineering consultancy Steve Morgan Associates has been awarded a multi‑million‑pound contract by developer Root‑Power to design the civil and structural elements of a 34‑megawatt battery energy storage system at Dounreay in the Scottish Highlands. The work will cover foundations, layout and drainage design, with construction slated to begin later this year. Founder Steve Morgan said the firm is “thrilled to be working with Root‑Power and delivering the engineering design requirements needed to ensure the right infrastructure is put in place.” Root‑Power managing director Neil Brooks added the partnership was chosen for its proven expertise in large‑scale BESS projects. The scheme supports the UK’s Clean Power 2030 reforms and aims to enhance grid stability and reduce price volatility for businesses and homes.
The project highlights the growing role of battery storage in the United Kingdom’s transition to a low‑carbon energy system.
