Steve Niles revives paranormal detective Cal McDonald in new story collection

Steve Niles, co-creator of ‘30 Days of Night’, is reviving his paranormal detective character, Cal McDonald, with a new collection titled ‘Cal McDonald: Plague of Evil and Other Stories’. The project has launched via a Kickstarter campaign through The Fourth Leaf, a new creator-owned imprint from Clover Press.

The 216-page hardcover will feature ten new stories written by Niles, each accompanied by illustrations from a variety of comic book artists, including Christopher Mitten, Francesco Francavilla, and Alison Sampson. The collection follows Cal McDonald and his undead sidekick, Mo’Lock, through a supernatural version of Los Angeles.

In addition to the diverse artist lineup, the book includes a painted cover by Joe Jusko and a foreword by actor David Dastmalchian. Niles noted that he has been writing the character in various forms for nearly forty years.
