Steve Smith becomes Australia's third-highest Test run-scorer
Australian cricketer Steve Smith has become the third-highest Test run-scorer in his country's history. During the opening day of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on October 9, 2026, Smith surpassed the career total of 10,927 runs previously held by Steve Waugh.
Smith contributed 25 runs in Australia's first innings, forming a 60-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne before being dismissed by Marco Jansen.
As the series continues, Smith is positioned to reach several other milestones, including becoming the 12th batter globally to score 11,000 Test runs and reaching 1,000 runs specifically against South Africa. He is also approaching 5,000 runs in away matches and 16,000 runs in total First-Class cricket.
