Steve Smith uncertain about Ashes participation

Australian veteran batter Steve Smith has expressed uncertainty regarding his participation in the upcoming Ashes series in England. The 37-year-old stated that he is approaching his Test career on a “series-by-series proposition” and is unsure if he will be available for the marquee campaign.

Smith noted that while he would love to win an Ashes series on English soil, he is currently focused on other goals, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He indicated that playing in T20 leagues, such as the European T20 Premier League with the Amsterdam Flames, allows him to maintain his fitness and experience for potential Olympic selection.

His future remains tied to upcoming commitments, including a series against South Africa, matches against New Zealand, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. Smith maintains a strong record in England, having scored 2,334 runs in 23 Tests at an average of 54.28.
