Steve Vai discusses film sequel and personal history

Guitarist Steve Vai is reportedly open to reprising his role as Jack Butler in a planned sequel to the 1986 blues-themed film “Crossroads”. Original screenwriter John Fusco and actor Ralph Macchio have confirmed that discussions for a sequel are underway, with plans to focus on a new character set decades after the original story.

In recent interviews, Vai also reflected on his professional and personal history. He addressed his time performing with David Lee Roth, noting that he never intended to compete with the style or legacy of Eddie Van Halen.

Additionally, Vai shared his experience struggling with severe depression during his early 20s while rising to fame. He credited a self-help book, “The Magic in Your Mind” by U. S. Anderson, with helping him navigate that difficult period.
