Steve Vai to return for Crossroads sequel

Guitarist Steve Vai is set to reprise his role in a sequel to the 1986 cult classic film Crossroads. Screenwriter John Fusco and original star Ralph Macchio have been discussing a follow-up for years and have reportedly developed a plan for the project.

Macchio, who played Eugene Martone, indicated that the new story would take place many years later and focus on a character relevant to the current era rather than Martone. Vai, who played the character Jack Butler, expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that his character seeks revenge following the events of the original film.

While specific plot details remain undisclosed, Fusco stated the sequel is intended to appeal to both general music fans and blues purists. The original film, which centered on a supernatural take on the life of blues legend Robert Johnson, gained a significant following on home video despite its initial box office performance.
