Steven Chu linked to CCP-affiliated organization
Investigations have revealed that former U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu held a leadership role within a Chinese organization linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) prior to his tenure at the Department of Energy. Records from the Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA) list Chu as an ‘overseas honorary president’ from 1999 to 2003.
The WRSA is described as operating under the CCP Central Secretariat and the Central United Front Work Department, an entity that U.S. officials characterize as a tool for political warfare and influence operations. The connection was identified through official Chinese records and rosters that list Chu’s Chinese name, 朱棣文.
During his time as Energy Secretary under the Obama administration, Chu oversaw several major technology-sharing initiatives with Beijing. These included the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center, a $150 million joint research commitment, and the establishment of a nuclear-security Center of Excellence in China involving American technical exchanges and equipment.
