Steven Gerrard criticizes Manchester United signing Andrey Santos

Steven Gerrard has criticized Manchester United’s £50m signing of Andrey Santos, stating the Brazilian midfielder is “not a Manchester United player.” Speaking on The Overlap, Gerrard questioned whether Santos was the correct acquisition for a club aiming to compete for the Premier League and Champions League.

Since joining Manchester United from Chelsea this summer, the 22-year-old has struggled for playing time. Santos has only started two games this season, including one Premier League match, and was an unused substitute during a recent 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

United’s midfield overhaul also included the signings of Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba. While Tielemans has been a regular starter, Baleba recently impressed on his debut following an injury layoff. Gerrard emphasized that to compete at the highest level, Manchester United requires midfielders who are “consistently world-class.”
