Steven Kruijswijk announces retirement from professional cycling

Professional cyclist Steven Kruijswijk has announced his retirement from competitive cycling at the end of the 2026 season. The 39-year-old rider confirmed during the program ‘De Avondetappe’ that his final Grand Tour appearance will be the Vuelta a España.

Kruijswijk has maintained a long-standing relationship with the team structure currently known as Team Visma | Lease a Bike, having ridden for its predecessors including Rabobank, Blanco, Belkin, LottoNL-Jumbo, and Jumbo-Visma over a 17-year period.

His career highlights include a third-place podium finish at the 2019 Tour de France, as well as fourth-place finishes at the 2016 Giro d'Italia and the 2018 Vuelta a España. In recent years, he has transitioned into a key support role for teammates such as Jonas Vingegaard and Simon Yates.
