Steven Spielberg releases new sci‑fi thriller 'Disclosure Day

Steven Spielberg’s latest film, Disclosure Day, opened in theaters on Friday. The story follows Daniel Kellner (Josh O’Connor), a fugitive who steals evidence that the U.S. government has concealed extraterrestrial visits. The plot expands into a global panic when a meteorologist, possessed during a live broadcast, speaks an unknown language, exposing a decades‑long secrecy by world leaders.

The movie marks Spielberg’s return to the alien genre after more than two decades, featuring a screenplay by David Koepp, music by John Williams and cinematography by Janusz Kamiński. Emily Blunt leads the cast as Margaret Fairchild, delivering a performance that blends fear, awe and a sense of public responsibility. Critics note the film blends classic Spielberg wonder with modern visual techniques, avoiding nostalgic shortcuts while delivering a fresh take on the sci‑fi thriller.

'Disclosure Day' continues Spielberg’s long‑standing fascination with extraterrestrials, recalling earlier works such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra‑Terrestrial, while exploring contemporary themes of governmental conspiracy and societal upheaval.
