Steven Spielberg reveals failed attempts to direct James Bond

Director Steven Spielberg has revealed that he made multiple attempts to direct a James Bond film early in his career, but was repeatedly rejected by producer Cubby Broccoli.

According to reports, Spielberg first approached Broccoli following the success of Jaws in 1975. He later proposed a deal involving the use of music from Close Encounters of the Third Kind in the film Moonraker in exchange for the directing role, but the offer was declined.

Following these rejections, Spielberg discussed his ambitions with George Lucas, which eventually led to the creation of the Indiana Jones franchise. While the Bond series remains a major cinematic staple, Spielberg went on to establish his own massive franchises, including Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones.
