Steven Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day' leads worldwide box office
Steven Spielberg’s new science‑fiction film “Disclosure Day” opened at the top of the box‑office, earning $44 million in its domestic debut weekend and $92.9 million worldwide. The movie, produced for $115 million with $80 million in marketing, must reach roughly $300 million globally to recoup its costs.
The film’s strong start outperformed early forecasts of $35 million domestic and $65 million worldwide. It faced competition mainly from the low‑budget horror “Obsession,” which earned $19 million that weekend and has a cumulative $286 million worldwide, as well as “Scary Movie” and “Backrooms.”
In Italy, “Disclosure Day” logged nearly €2 million in five days, while in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, China and France it also posted solid earnings. Audiences were mixed, with about 41 % of ticket‑buyers aged 45 and older, and the film received generally positive reviews (80 % fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, B CinemaScore).
Analysts note the opening demonstrates Spielberg’s enduring box‑office pull, but the long‑term success will depend on sustained audience interest in the coming weeks.
