Steven Spielberg warns AI can't replace the soul as he gears up for new sci‑fi film

Renowned director Steven Spielberg, whose career spans iconic titles such as Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park and Schindler's List, recently addressed the rise of artificial intelligence in an IMO podcast. He argued that AI "cannot replace the soul," cautioning against computers taking a writer’s seat and stressing that creative decisions – from antagonist design to camera placement – must remain human. While acknowledging AI’s potential in fields like health care and education, he insisted it should stay out of artistic creation.

At the same time, Spielberg is preparing to release a new science‑fiction film scheduled for 10 June 2026. Titled “Disclosure Day – The Day of Truth,” the movie returns to the theme of extraterrestrials and features an ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor and Colin Firth, with a screenplay by longtime collaborator David Koepp.
