Stevie Wonder sues to evict former fiancée from Los Angeles home

Music legend Stevie Wonder has filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court to evict Carmen Efferson from a three-bedroom property in Hollywood Hills. Efferson, who was reportedly engaged to Wonder in the late 1980s, has occupied the residence rent-free since July 1988 under a verbal agreement.

The legal dispute escalated this summer when Wonder’s representatives attempted to access the home on three separate occasions in July to conduct a mandatory inspection for property insurance renewal. According to court documents, Efferson refused entry, an action Wonder’s legal team claims jeopardized the property’s insurance coverage.

Communications between Efferson and Wonder’s attorneys have been described as hostile. In email exchanges, Efferson accused legal representatives of using a “racist coldblooded ‘white male privilege’ tone” and stated she felt harassed. Wonder’s attorney, David Huff, responded by clarifying that the legal partner involved in the correspondence was neither white nor male.

After Efferson failed to vacate the premises by a requested August 27 deadline, Wonder initiated formal eviction proceedings. The singer is seeking a court order for her removal, as well as damages and legal costs.
