Stevie Wonder files eviction lawsuit against former fiancée
Musician Stevie Wonder has filed an eviction lawsuit in Los Angeles against his former fiancée, Carmen Efferson, who has reportedly lived in one of his Hollywood Hills properties rent-free since 1988. The legal action, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, seeks to terminate a verbal agreement that allowed Efferson to reside in the three-bedroom home without monthly rent.
The dispute escalated this summer when Wonder’s legal team attempted to access the property to conduct inspections necessary for maintaining insurance coverage. Efferson refused entry to the representatives, leading her legal team to claim she felt harassed. In communications with the singer’s attorneys, Efferson accused the legal staff of using a “racist cold-blooded ‘white male privilege’” tone.
Wonder’s lawyers state that the inability to inspect the home jeopardized the property’s insurance. After a notice to vacate was issued with a deadline of August 27, Efferson remained in the residence, prompting the current lawsuit. In addition to the eviction, Wonder is seeking compensation for damages and legal fees.
