Edson Fachin rejects request to remove Flávio Dino from Flávio Bolsonaro cases

Supreme Court President Edson Fachin has rejected a request from Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's defense to remove Minister Flávio Dino from presiding over several legal cases. The defense argued that Dino should be declared biased due to his long-standing personal and political ties to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, suggesting this could compromise the impartiality of proceedings related to the 2026 presidential election.

The cases in question include investigations into the alleged use of parliamentary amendments to fund the film 'Dark Horse', a biopic of former President Jair Bolsonaro, and various electoral matters. One specific investigation examines whether Deputy Mário Frias directed R$ 2 million in amendments to the Instituto Conhecer Brasil, an entity linked to the film's production company.

Additionally, Dino recently suspended a decision by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) that had blocked social media posts linking Flávio Bolsonaro to a bill regarding the patron saint of Brazil. The decision by Fachin remains under judicial secrecy.
