STF President Edson Fachin seeks truce to mask internal court crisis

Edson Fachin, president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), has been working behind the scenes to mitigate internal tensions within the court to prevent them from disrupting official sessions.

Following a contentious session on September 15 involving ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça regarding cases linked to Banco Master, Fachin held individual meetings with justices. He requested that internal disagreements be kept out of the plenary and that members maintain decorum during judgments.

As a result of this strategy, recent sessions returned to routine, covering topics such as maternity leave criteria for biological and adoptive mothers, as well as tax benefits and judicial costs, without the public confrontation seen previously. While the public temperature has lowered, Fachin has not yet convened a formal meeting with all ministers to resolve the underlying conflicts.
