Stia celebrates 50 years of the European Biennale of Forge Art

The town of Stia, located in the Casentino region, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the European Biennale of Forge Art from September 4 to 6. Since 1976, the event has established the area as a European reference point for the art of forging.

The three-day program includes live blacksmithing demonstrations, such as the creation of a new entrance gate for the S.T.I.A. Academy. The “Fucine Aperte” initiative will provide six forges for artists to work individually or in groups on pieces inspired by the anniversary.

A major highlight occurs on September 5 with a presentation at the Teatro Comunale regarding a collaboration between the Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte and the Biennale. This includes the unveiling of an artwork inspired by Michelangelo Pistoletto’s “Terzo Paradiso,” which will join the permanent collection of the Municipality of Pratovecchio Stia. The festivities will conclude on September 6 with the presentation of the XXVII Biennale scheduled for 2027.
