Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen launches 2026 election compass

Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen has launched an election compass ahead of the 2026 Swedish elections to map the positions of the eight parliamentary parties on key school policy issues. The initiative comes as nearly 20,000 students are expected to leave compulsory school without eligibility for upper secondary education this year, representing an increase of over 40 percent over the last decade.

The mapping reveals broad political consensus on several fronts: all eight parties support the right to remedial teaching, and nearly all support resource allocation based on need and targeted interventions in socioeconomically challenged areas. Despite this shared political will, the foundation notes that many students still do not receive the support they are entitled to. Karin Nolke Grubbström, Secretary General of Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen, emphasized that while political ambitions exist, the focus must shift toward concrete classroom results to prevent the long-term societal costs associated with educational failure.
