Stiftung Warentest crowns Tchibo filter coffee; De’Longhi Magnifica S praised as low‑cost espresso machine

Stiftung Warentest evaluated 15 ground coffees and awarded the top spot to Tchibo Eduscho Filterkaffee Nr. 1 Klassisch with a “good” rating and a “very good” sensory score. The product costs about €14 per kilogram, placing it in the affordable range, though its CSR rating was only “sufficient.” Other brands such as Melitta, Mövenpick and Aldi Nord also received solid scores, showing that quality does not always require premium prices.

In a separate consumer test, the De’Longhi Magnifica S espresso machine, launched in 2011 and priced around €399, was assessed for ease of use and coffee quality. Reviewers highlighted its compact size, simple four‑button operation, and reliable temperature control, while noting a longer warm‑up time of roughly 50 seconds and a lack of automatic milk frothing. The espresso was described as balanced but somewhat watery, and overall the machine was deemed a good value for consumers seeking straightforward black coffee without advanced milk‑based drinks.
