Stiftung Warentest evaluates 24 rapeseed oil products
Stiftung Warentest has evaluated 24 different rapeseed oils, ranging from refined and cold-pressed varieties to products with butter flavor. The study focused on nutritional content, such as Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E, as well as potential contaminants like pesticides and residues from the refining process.
The results indicate that rapeseed oil is a highly popular and cost-effective cooking oil in Germany, holding approximately 40 percent of the market share. Most of the tested products received a “good” rating, with many being suitable for baby food. Out of the 24 products tested, 22 were rated as “good,” one was rated as “satisfactory,” and only one product, “Rapsgold mit Buttergeschmack,” received an “adequate” rating due to unverifiable claims regarding its natural aroma.
Prices for the tested oils varied between 1.59 and 11.04 euros per liter. The testing confirmed that rapeseed oil provides significant amounts of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential Omega-3 fatty acid that supports brain function and cardiovascular health.
