Stiftung Warentest finds budget cat food outperforms premium brands

Stiftung Warentest, a German consumer protection organization, has released the results of a comprehensive analysis of 22 dry cat food products. The study found that price is not a reliable indicator of nutritional quality, as a budget-friendly brand outperformed several premium-priced alternatives.

The clear winner of the test was the ‘Attica Knuspermenü Knusprige Mischung mit Rind’ from Netto Marken-Discount, which received an overall rating of ‘very good’ (1.3). The product was noted for its high nutritional-physiological quality, which accounted for 60 percent of the total evaluation criteria. At a cost of approximately 0.07 euros per daily ration, it was significantly more affordable than other top-rated options.

Two other products also received ‘very good’ ratings: Fressnapf Real Nature Wilderness Ranger's Forest Adult (1.5) and Sanabelle Adult with Ostrich (1.5). The testing emphasized the importance of essential nutrients such as taurine, arachidonic acid, and preformed Vitamin A, which are critical for the metabolic health of obligate carnivores.
